Zana Muhsen (born 1965 in Birmingham, England) is a British author known for her book Sold: Story of Modern-day Slavery and its follow-up A Promise to Nadia. The books narrate the experiences that she and her sister Nadia (born 1966) went through after they were sold into marriage by their father, Muthanna Muhsen, a Yemeni émigré. Years after Zana’s release she still fought for Nadia’s, Nadia’s children and her own son Marcus’s freedom. Many, many years later she found success. It’s been a while since I last read this book but the messages and ideas have stuck with me. In 1980 Zana Muhsen, 15, and her sister Nadia, 14, were abducted from their Birmingham, England home and sold into marriage in the Yemen, in the Arabian peninsula of Asia.

Nadia and the children are now safely back in the UK. Marcus (Zana's son) came looking for his mother as soon as he turned 18, just as Zana always hoped he would. How did I find out?
